This hotel is listed with Zurich's historic preservation office. Apart from the façade and room layout, nothing is left from its original Bauhaus-era construction as a men’s dormitory in 1932. The hotel is once again to be given a more uniform appearance. The original era is not directly transferrable, however, since the Bauhaus themes of serial production and "less is more" no longer fit its purpose. The structure will now become more of a boutique hotel. Employing forms, colours and materials from the earlier period in combination with contemporary elements, the Hotel Engimatt is recovering its more authentic appearance. A sample room was finished in 2014.
