Residential development, Zurich

Composed cubature
Year constructed: 2012

In the design of this project, the most important aspects for the young family were family life, providing free space for children and adults, cooking and eating with friends, socialising, incorporating nature and working from home. The property is located on the eastern shore of Lake Zurich in the middle of an existing villa neighbourhood. To do justice to this location, this modern residence is designed to exist confidently amongst the existing hundred-year-old houses without dominating these, embedded into the park-like yard with large existing trees. The cantilevered ceiling wraps around all sides to form verandas and terraces, uniting this conglomerate of volumes into a sculptural whole. The cantilevers offer the possibility of a sheltered exit and a place to linger with a view of the outdoors. The building consists of two full storeys, a basement and a parapet. The volume of the single-family house is formed by cubes of different heights.
